Childbirth Educators: An independent childbirth educator provides comprehensive information on labor, consumer issues, and techniques for a satisfying birth. 

Doulas: A doula is a professional who provides non-medical care to a  family during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  She is independent of the medical care provider and works only for the family to support their desires. 

Hospital Birth Care Providers: Physicians and Certified Nurse Midwives typically attend births in hospitals.  A woman may choose between a certified nurse midwife (CNM), family physician who practices obstetrics or an obstetrician.  An obstetrician is often required for a high-risk or surgical birth. 

Lactation:  It is important to know the breastfeeding resources in your community. From IBCLC's to Facebook support groups having the resourse, support and community can make a word of difference in your breastfeeding experience.

Midwives: Whether you're looking to birth with midwives in a Hospital, Birth Center or at Home this list of our midwives both Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) and Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) is for you.

Out-of-Hospital Birth Care Providers: In SC, midwives are licensed by DHEC and attend births in homes and at freestanding birth centers.  Professional midwives provide care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  They recognize birth as a normal life event and are a great option for low-risk women seeking an out-of-hospital birth.

Support Groups/ Meet-ups:  We have an amazing variety of local support groups and Meet-ups!

Other Care Providers: Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, Massage, Craniosacral and Body Work Therapy as well as other alternative practitioners can offer benefits to expectant women, newborn babies and famlies.
